Yamunotri Dham Uttarakhand

Yamunotri temple is situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state in India. The distance between the shrine and Uttarkashi town is 130 km. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, a river who is also considered the daughter of the Hindu god Surya.

Basically, Yamunotri is a glacier from which the river Yamuna originates. It is a sacred place for Hindus, who worship the river Yamuna as a Goddess. Yamunotri is one of the shrines included in the Char Dham of Uttarakhand. It is also acknowledged as the first Dham in the Char Dham circuit. The journey of the Char Dham of Uttarakhand starts from Yamunotri Dham.
The Hindu scriptures mention Goddess Yamuna as a sacred and pious river. People believe that dipping in the waters of the Yamuna may provide them with ultimate salvation.

Yamunotri Dham closes every year for the winter season and opens again in the summer. The opening ceremony of Yamunotri Dham falls on Akshaya Tritiya (April/May) every year. The closing ceremony of Yamunotri Dham is held on Yama Dwitiya (October/November) every year.
